‘Natural’ Oak Desk
My clients were looking for a desk to match the look and feel of their existing furniture and to fit a specific space. We discussed specifications, budget and the aesthetics they liked. I produced a sketch which we tweaked together. When I was constructing it I felt the balance of the legs was off (i.e. legs appeared too chunky in in the flesh). I went back to the client and we agreed to slim them down. The desk is finished with a subtly white tinted hard wax oil which doesn’t darken the oak, to give a raw natural look in combination with a robust protective finish.
‘Rustic’ Oak Bench
This dining bench was designed to match an heirloom oak table which I was resurfacing for my clients. The clients choose the oak slab that they wanted, which had a lot of character and contrast in the heartwood and sapwood. The slab was perfect for creating a live edge lip and curving forms. It was finished with a satin finish oil which matched the table, deepened the colour and made the character pop.
